Allergies

Dr. Alice Briggs BA MD FRCPC

Dr. Alice Briggs is a specialist in Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Internal Medicine, who holds weekly clinics at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. She graduated in Science from the University of Saskatchewan and in Medicine from the University of Toronto. Her training has also included Pathology and Pediatrics. Dr. Briggs is a member of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology; Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society of Ontario; Canadian Medical Association and Ontario Medial Association. Dr. Briggs has been a clinical teacher in Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto and currently teaches pediatric residents at The Evergreen Health Centre for street youth where she volunteers her services. Her community work has predominately involved working with parents who are having difficulty with their children’s behavior. She is an active (and founding member) participant in HOPE (Helping Other Parents Everywhere) and contributes to presentations to community agencies, schools and does parent groups.

Dr. Priyanka Lall BSc. MD

Dr. Lall worked from 2015-2017 as a Section Chief, Allergy and Immunology at the Guthrie Medical Clinic in New York. Prior to that, she completed a three-year post graduate training program in Internal Medicine at Yale University (2008-2011) and a two-year Clinical Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at Emory University, Atlanta (2012-2014).

Dr. Lall is ABAI Board Certified in Allergy and Immunology and the co-author of several publications in this area. Her areas of clinic interest include:

Cardiology

Dr. Raymond Chan MD MPH BScPhm FRCPC

Dr. Raymond Chan is a practicing cardiologist at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Facility cardiology department.  He is also a Staff Cardiologist at the Scarborough Hospital, and a clinical and research associate at the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center in Toronto General Hospital.  Dr. Chan graduated from Pharmacy School at The University of Toronto in 2000, and then from Medical School at Queens University in 2004.   He spent 3 years at The University of Toronto studying Internal Medicine from 2004-2007, then spent three more years and McMaster University studying Cardiology from 2007-2010.  From 2010-2013 he went on to an Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School as well as completing a Master of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston Massachusetts.  Dr Chan’s clinical areas of interest include cardiac imaging, general cardiology, and holds a special clinical and research interest in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. Chan speaks both English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin).

Dr. Vijay Chauhan, MD FRCPC

Dr. Chauhan is a cardiac electrophysiologist working at University Health Network, Toronto since 2001. His clinical expertise in the Division of Cardiology at University Health Network is in the areas of atrial fibrillation catheter ablations, pacemaker/defibrillator implantation, and inherited arrhythmia syndromes. Dr. Chauhan is interested in providing cardiac electrophysiology services in our region. He will be pleased to assess patients with arrhythmia symptoms, such as palpitations, syncope. He also has an interest in arrhythmia risk assessment.

Dr. Diego Delgado MD MSc

Dr. Diego Delgado is a cardiologist who is a Heart Failure Specialist at the University Health Network and an Associate Professor of the Division of Cardiology and Transplant at the University of Toronto. He is the medical director of the Cardiac Clinical Service at the Toronto General Hospital. Dr. Delgado is the past-chair of the Canadian Cardiac Transplant Group. He is currently the President of the InterAmerican Society of Cardiology. Dr. Delgado also has authored over 90 peer reviewed publications in advanced heart failure therapies. Dr. Delgado is fluent in Spanish, Italian and Portugese.

Dr. John Janevski MD FRCPC

Dr. John Janevski is a cardiologist who has been treating patients at the Polyclinic and Specialty Medicine Facility since 2004. Dr. Janevski completed his training in Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology at the University of Toronto in 2005 and his fellowship in Interventional Cardiology in 2007. He is currently an active staff cardiologist at the University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital. His academic interests are in teaching and medical education at the post-graduate level.

Dr. Mina Madan MD, MHS, FRCPC, FSCAI

Dr. Madan is an academic staff interventional cardiologist and director of interventional cardiology clinical trials research at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. Dr. Madan is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Madan is interested in extending the cardiac services offered at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to patients in our region. She is open to general cardiology consultations, but has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, and endovascular treatments for peripheral arterial disease.

Dr. Anthony Rocca MD FRCPC

Dr. Anthony Rocca is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Dr. Rocca has provided regular cardiology consultations at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility since 2009. Dr. Rocca is an active member of The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario since 2002. He has hospital privileges at Sudbury Regional Hospital, Laurential Site, Memorial Site, and St Joseph’s General Site. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 2002, completed his training in Internal Medicine in 2005 and in Cardiology in 2008 from the University of Toronto.

Colorectal Surgery

Dr. Jensen Tan MD MSc FRCSC

Dr. Jensen Tan accepts patients at Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility as well as North York Endoscopy Centre for any general surgery consultations including management of colorectal cancer, polyps, breast, and benign problems. Dr. Tan completed his general surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgery training at the University of Toronto and has been an attending general surgeon at Markham Stouffville Hospital, and the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook. He is an active staff member at Humber River Hospital. : In addition to advanced minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Tan also has clinical interests in the areas of breast and colorectal oncology. He is fluent in English and Cantonese.

Dermatology

Dr. Akerke Baibergenova MD FRCPC DABP PhD MPH

Dr. Baibergenova is a Board-Certified Dermatologist. She also has Master’s degree in Public Health and a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology (McMaster University). Dr. A. Baibergenova has extensive training in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. In addition to her clinical work she made substantial research contributions particularly in medical dermatology and dermatoepidemiology. During her residency she received the prestigious Everett C. Fox award by the American Academy of Dermatology and several awards by the Canadian Society for Investigative Dermatology. Her original research manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed dermatology journals and presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Baibergenova’s professional affiliations include the Canadian Dermatology Association, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Society for Investigative Dermatology. She is fluent in English and Russian.

Dr. Shakti Sharma MD FRCPC

Dr. Sharma commenced dermatology clinics at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility in January, 2012. Dr. Sharma trained in Dermatology at the University of Toronto and is a Board Certified Dermatologist in both Canada, as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the United States, as a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Sharma’s clinical interests include skin cancers, minor surgical procedures involving face and other parts of the body with fine plastic surgical techniques and non-invasive cosmetic rejuvenation techniques.

 Certified Diabetes Nurse Educator

 Irina Liubansky, RN, CDE

Irina Liubansky, RN, CDE has joined Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility as a Certified Diabetes Educator. Irina brings over 19 years of nursing experience including acute care at NYGH Paediatric unit and Emergency room, home care services with Central CCAC and as Diabetes Nurse Educator with NYGH Diabetes Education Centre. She received her Certification in Diabetes Education from Confederation College in Thunder Bay and her Nursing Diploma in Israel.

Ear Nose Throat (ENT)

Dr. James Haight MD FRCSC

Dr. Haight is an Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist and has worked at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility since 2005. He graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 1973 and has been an active member of The College of Physicians and Surgeons since 1975. Dr. Haight is a professor at the University of Toronto. He speaks English, French, German, and Italian.

Dr. Xerxes Punthakee MD FRCSC

Dr. Xerxes Punthakee holds weekly general Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) clinics at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Punthakee earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto and graduated as the class Valedictorian in 2004. He continued his training at the University of Toronto in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, and was honoured with the position of Chief Resident of his program when he graduated in 2009. He subsequently completed an American Academy of Facial Plastics And Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at UCLA. Currently, Dr. Punthakee is a member and Lecturer of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Endocrinology

Dr. Aubie Angel MD FRCPC FCAHS

Dr. Aubie Angel has held weekly clinics at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility since 2005. Dr. Angel is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He graduated from the University of Manitoba Medical School in 1959 and been an active member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario since 1968. Dr. Angel has hospital privileges at Lake of Woods District Hospital and consultant physician at University Health Network. Dr. Angel’s clinical interests include cardiovascular risk factors, lipids, diabetes and thyroid disease.

Dr. Steven Orlov, MD FRCPC

Dr. Orlov is a graduate from the University of Toronto Medical School. He has a clinical and research interest in thyroid disease and is accepting referrals for patients with diabetes, thyroid disease, metabolic bone disease and other general endocrine problems. He also works in conjunction with a diabetes nurse educator to help initiate and adjust insulin therapies for patients who require it.

Dr. Orlov is fluent in English and Russian, and welcomes all patients in the community.

Dr. Phillip Segal, MD FRCPC

Dr. Segal is a Clinician Teacher, Division of Endocrinology, Department of  Medicine, University of Toronto as well as a staff endocrinologist at Toronto General Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Segal is a medical graduate from the University of Alberta and completed his postgraduate training at the University of Toronto. He has a clinical and research interest in diabetes and thyroid disease and will be accepting referrals for patients with diabetes, thyroid disease, metabolic bone disease and other general endocrine problems. Dr. Segal will not see patients referred for reproductive endocrinology and menopause.

Dr. Marina Berg BSc (Hons) MD CCFP

Dr. Marina Berg is a family physician at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Berg graduated from medical school at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario in 2003 and completed her post-graduate studies in family medicine discipline at University of Toronto in 2005. Dr. Berg speaks both English and Russian.

Dr. Eugene Bondarev MD

Dr. Bondarev is a family physician who attended medical school from 1989-1995 at the Donetsk Medical University in Ukraine. He then went on to complete his general surgical residency program in 1995 at the same medical school in Ukraine. Between 2011-2014 Dr. Bondarev finished his Family Medicine residency at Virginia Tech Carilion in Virgina, USA. Dr. Bondarev is fluent in both English and Russian.

Dr. Liuba Grossman MD

Dr. Liuba Grossman is a physician holding an independent family practice within the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Grossman has been a practicing family physician in Toronto for over 30 years. Dr. Grossman graduated from medical school at the Tel-Aviv University in Israel in 1977 and received her training at Women’s College Hospital and St Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto. She is an active member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Ontario. Dr. Grossman speaks English, Hebrew, Lithuanian, Russian and Yiddish fluently.

Dr. Ruth Grossman MD CCFP ABFM

Dr. Ruth Grossman is a physician holding an independent family practice within the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Grossman graduated from the Saba University School of Medicine in 2010 and completed her residency training in 2013 at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. She is a board certified family physician in the United States and Canada. Her special interests include women’s health, adolescent medicine, and integrative medicine.

Dr. Leslie Housefather BSc MD CCFP

Dr. Leslie Housefather is a family physician at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Housefather attended McGill University and completed both his Medical School and residency there, graduating in 1998. After completing his residency, Dr. Housefather spent some time in the United States studying sports medicine at Emory College and Stanford University. Thereafter, Dr. Housefather worked in Montreal in cosmetics and sports medicine and an additional two years working emergency and trauma. In 2001 Dr. Housefather moved to Toronto with his family. Dr. Housefather speaks English, French, Spanish and Hebrew.

Dr. Vera Kamenskaia MD

Dr. Vera Kamenskaia is a family physician at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Kamenskaia graduated from Novosibirsk Medical Academy, Russia, in 1997. Dr. Kamenskaia completed her residency at Virginia Tech Carilion Family Medicine Residency Program in 2012. She has been an active member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario since 2013.Her professional interests include women’s health, pediatrics, chronic disease management and preventive care. Dr. Kamenskaia speaks both English and Russian.

Dr. Bertram Wing King. M.B. CH.B.

Dr. Bertam Wing King has been in full time family practice since 1970.  He  is also a Member of Department Family Practice Humber River Regional Hospital and Member of the New Humber River Hospital.

His vast practical experience ranges from  Medical Director,  Baker Centre Metro Home for the aged  from 1984-2000 to Medical Advisor, Harold and Grace Baker Centre Nursing Home (1984-2000), Committee member (Emergency, Medical Advisor, Tissue and Audit and Utilization) at Northwestern General Hospital (1980-1990), all while running a busy Family Practice which he started in 1970.

Dr. King also held the esteemed position of Medical Director, Emergency Department at Northwestern General Hospital from 1980-1985.

Dr. King graduated in 1967 from University of Cape Town, MB. CH. B. and was a Surgical Resident McMaster University, Hamilton from 1969-1970. Dr. King is also actively involved as the Organizer and Convenor of the Northwestern Journal Club.

Dr. Marina Krasnopolsky MD ABFP CCFP

Dr. Krasnopolsky graduated from medical school at Ross University in 2002. She is a board certified family physician in the United States and Canada. Dr. Krasnopolsky now practices part-time at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility as a family physician as well. Dr. Krasnopolsky speaks both English and Russian.

Dr. Ekatherena Maltseva MD

Please note as of January 1, 2018, Dr. Maltseva will be reducing her family practice hours to halftime. For those who decide to stay, please know that wait times will be extended due to her reduced hours. We understand that some may choose to select a new physician either within Polyclinic or outside the practice. Dr. Ekatherena Maltseva has been practicing family medicine at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility for over 10 years. Dr. Maltseva cares for a wide range of patients from newborn babies to geriatric patients. Dr. Maltseva graduated from Kharov Medical School, Ukraine in 1983. She practiced medicine in Ukraine until 1997, before she immigrated to Canada. Dr. Maltseva completed her Family Medicine Residency in 2003 at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Maltseva is fluent in English, Russian and Ukranian.

Dr. Alex Peters BSc. MBBS, MRCGP, MCFP

Dr. Peters is a graduate of the St. George’s Medical School, University of London, United Kingdom and completed his family medicine residency in England in 2016. Since graduating, Dr. Peters has practiced family medicine full time in England. Dr. Peters provides a full range of healthcare services to care for men, women and children of all ages. Dr. Lew Pliamm BSc MD CCFP FCFP

Dr. Lew Pliamm is a graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School and has practiced Family Medicine in Toronto, Canada for 20 years. He is the Medical director and founder of the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility, where he currently practices family medicine, and is the principal investigator at Canadian Phase Onward Inc. Dr. Pliamm has worked in the clinical research field, conducting Phase 2-4 clinical research trials for over 15 years. Dr. Pliamm is also a Lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Toronto and is actively involved in teaching medical residents. Dr. Pliamm also enjoys public speaking and has been a keynote speaker for several companies and organizations at an international level. Dr. Pliamm speaks English, Russian, Yiddish, Hebrew and German.

Dr. Naomi Pliamm MD CCFP

Dr. Naomi Pliamm graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 2002 and followed that with two years of post-graduate family medicine training at the University of Toronto from 2003-2004. Dr. Sara Pliamm MD

Dr. Sara Pliamm graduated from Kaunas State University Medical School, Lithuania in 1965. She completed her family medicine residency in Toronto. Dr. Pliamm has been practicing as a family physician in Toronto for over 30 years, and for the last 10 years at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Facility as a family physician. Dr. Fariz Remtulla MD ABFM CCFP

Dr. Fariz Remtulla BSc, MD ABFM CCFP graduated from medical school at St. George’s University in 2012 and completed his family medicine residency in 2016 with American Board Certification at Oklahoma University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Since graduating in the United States, Dr. Remtulla is happy to have moved back home to Canada to start his Canadian practice at Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine. Dr. Anna Slavina MD ABFM CCFP

Dr. Slavina is a Family Physician at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. She graduated in 1991 from the St. Petersburg Medical School, Russia. Four years later, in 1995, Dr. Slavina immigrated to Canada. From 2004-2007 Dr. Slavina completed her residency in South Texas and from 2008 until today has practiced family medicine in Toronto at the Polyclinic. Dr. Slavina is fluent in both English and Russian.

Dr. Vishal Thakur BSc. (Hons.) MD ABFM CCFP

Dr. Thakur completed his family medicine residency in 2014 with American Board Certification at the University of Alabama.  Since graduating in the United States, Dr. Thakur has practiced family medicine in Markham, Ontario. Dr. Yakoub Bilbily MD FRCPC

Dr. Yakoub Bilbily is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology who has worked at the North York Endoscopy Centre since 2003. Dr. Bilbily has been an active member of The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario since 1998. He graduated from the University of Baghdad in 1980. He completed his training, specializing in Gastroenterology from University of Toronto in 2003. Dr. Bilbily is fluent in English and Arabic.

Dr. Nayima Clermont Dejean MD FRCPC

Dr. Clermont Dejean is a specialist in Gastroenterology. She graduated medical school from McGill University in 2012 and subsequently completed fellowships in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Université de Sherbrooke in 2017. She currently is a clinical fellow in nutrition at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Clermont Dejean is fluent in French, English and Spanish and welcomes all patients in the community.

Dr. Khursheed Jeejeebhoy MD PhD MBBS FRCPC

Dr. Khursheed Jeejeebhoy practices gastroenterology at the North York Endoscopy Centre. Dr. Jeejeebhoy received his medical degree from the Christian Medical College Hospital in Vellore, India in 1959.   Dr. Jeejeebhoy was the past Division director of Gastroenterology at the University of Toronto and the Toronto General Hospital, where he established and directed a program for the postgraduate training of clinical and academic gastroenterologists. Currently, he is Director of the Home parenteral nutrition program and staff physician at St. Michael’s Hospital. He is also an Emeritus Professor of Medicine, cross-appointed to the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto. He continues his research interests through his position as an executive of the Canadian Malnutrition Task Force and as a committee member of the Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines for Nutrition in Intensive Care. Dr. Jeejeebhoy has published over 500 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters over his career. He is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. He is currently on the editorial board of Nature Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Jeejeebhoy has received numerous awards throughout his career including the McCollom award from the American Society of Clinical Nutrition, the British Society of Gastroenterology, Research Awards from the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, and the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology and Distinguished Service Award from the Ontario Association of Gastroenterology. He has been elected senior member of the Canadian Medical Association. In 2010 he recently received the Gold medal from the Canadian Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. The Canadian Society of Nutrition established the Khursheed Jeejeebhoy Award for excellence in Clinical Nutrition. In 2011 he received the Mentor award from the American Gastroentrological Association Institute.

Dr. Brinderjit Kaila MD FRCPC

Dr. Brinderjit Kaila is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Her primary place of practice is at the North York Endoscopy Centre in luminal Gastroenterology. Dr. Kaila has been an active member of The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario since 2007. She graduated medical school from the University of Manitoba in 2002. She completed Internal Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 2006. Dr. Kaila completed her fellowship specializing in Gastroenterology from University of Calgary in 2007. General Surgery

Dr. Igor Goussev MD FRCSC

Dr. Igor Goussev is accepting patients at the North York Endoscopy Centre for endoscopy procedures, general surgical consultations (including gallbladder and biliary tree problems, thyroid, skin), breast issues consultations and procedures for ano-rectal problems. Dr. Goussev is currently an active staff member at Rouge Valley Health System, Ajax Pickering General Hospital in his role as a Hepato-Pancreato-Billiary(HPB) and General Surgeon. Dr. Goussev completed his general surgery training at Moscow Medical Academy, Russia and at the University of Saskatchewan, where he was a General Surgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of General Surgery at Royal University Hospital. He subsequently completed a fellowship in HPB Surgery and ERCP at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Goussev’s clinical interests include colorectal oncology, in addition to general surgery. Dr. Goussev is fluent in Russian and English.

Dr. David Starr MD FRCS(C)

Dr. David Starr has been providing surgical consultations and performing endoscopy at the North York Endoscopy Centre since 2003.  Dr. Starr graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1983.  He completed residency training at University of Toronto In 1990 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons with certification in General Surgery. Dr. Starr is an active staff member in the department of General Surgery at Humber River Hospital, where he participates in Resident and Fellowship training in Surgical Oncology and Minimally Invasive Surgery.  His practice includes advanced Laparoscopic Surgery (minimally invasive surgery) as well as Bariatric Surgery and endoscopy.

Dr. Jensen Tan MD MSc FRCSC

Dr. Jensen Tan accepts patients at Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility as well as North York Endoscopy Centre for any general surgery consultations including management of colorectal cancer, polyps, breast, and benign problems. Dr. Tan completed his general surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgery training at the University of Toronto and has been an attending general surgeon at Markham Stouffville Hospital, and the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook. He is now active staff at Humber River Hospital. Dr. Tan’s clinical interests include breast and colorectal oncology, in addition to advanced minimally invasive surgery. Other languages spoken include Cantonese.

Gynecology

Dr. Farid Abdel Hadi MD FRCSC

Dr. Abdel Hadi is a Gynecologist who trained through University of Toronto (Mount Sinai and Sunnybrook Hospitals) in 2006-2007. He then practiced at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa from 2008 until 2017. He is now relocating his practice to North York in Toronto. Dr. Abdel Hadi is as Assistant Professor in both the departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as the department of Family Medicine, Queen’s University.Dr. Abdel Hadi specializes in fertility investigations and treatment (in collaboration with IVF CANADA) and related gynecological endocrinology, including PCO and menopause. He will also be accepting patients referred for routine office gynecology such as IUD insertion and removal, difficult pap, etc, including prolapse patients who may need pessary fitting.

Dr. Abdel Hadi is also skilled in Cosmetic Gynecology, and will be accepting referral for patients interested in surgical and non-surgical cosmetic gynecology procedures. (most such procedures are not covered by OHIP).

Dr. Chaula Mehta MD, FRCSC

Dr. Mehta worked for 14 years as a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist in India prior to completing a four year Obstetrics & Gynecology residency at the University of Toronto in 2016. Dr. Mehta completed a fellowship in Advanced Obstetrics at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto in 2011 and is currently continuing her studies with a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Toronto. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Urdu and Punjabi and welcomes all patients in the community. Dr. Mehta will not be accepting obstetrics referrals at the current time.

Dr. Muhseen Yusef MD, FRCPC

Dr. Yusuf recently completed his residency in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto. He has a clinical interest in General gynaecology, abnormal uterine bleeding, fibroids, uro-gynaecology, and infertility and will be accepting all gynaecology referrals. Dr. Yusuf is fluent in English, Russian, Swahili, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu and Cutchi and welcomes all patients in the community.

Haematology

Dr. Larry Grossman MD FRCP(C)

Dr. Grossman is a well-known haematologist, who received his undergraduate and post-graduate training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Grossman also completed postgraduate clinical education at Toronto Western Hospital, Wellesley Hospital, and Vancouver General Hospital. He also spent a research year at Hammersmith Hospital in London, England. Following his training, Dr. Grossman had an academic appointment at University of British Columbia for 9 years in the Department of Medicine, Division of Haematology where he maintained a clinical practice in haematology, had a regular rotation in the lab reviewing blood films and marrows and also assisted in the set up and operations of the Acute Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.

Dr. Grossman returned to Toronto in 1985 to join Scarborough Grace Hospital and practiced both Internal Medicine and Haematology there for 17 years. He then took the Chief of Staff position of the “new” Scarborough Hospital (an amalgamation of the Scarborough Grace and Scarborough General Hospitals).

In 2006 Dr. Larry Grossman was recruited to the Chief of Staff position at York Central Hospital. For the last two years, he has also been the staff haematologist for a Sickle Cell Program at a CHC in Scarborough.

Hepatology

Dr. Kinda Aljassem MD MSc FRCPC

Dr. Aljassem received her Bachelor of Medicine from McMaster University and Post-Graduate Training at the University of Toronto. She has been practicing since 2017, including at the Toronto Liver Centre as a General Internal Medicine Physician specializing in patients with Chronic Liver Disease. Dr. Aljassem has a special interest in Clinical Hepatology with a community based focus and will provide consultations for all forms of liver disease, including. liver masses, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cirrhosis NYD, and elevated liver enzymes.

Dr. Magdy Elkhashab MD MSc FRCPC

Dr. Magdy Elkhashab is a renowned hepatologist who worked at the Liver Study Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto for seven years. Dr. Elkhashab then opened his own practice at the Toronto Liver Centre in 1998, where he is currently the Director. Dr. Elksharab is also currently on active staff at North York General Hospital In 2010 Dr. Elkhashab established the FibroScan Program, which now serves patients in 8 locations around the GTA. Examination with FibroScan, also called transient elastography, is a technique used to assess liver stiffness (measured in kPa correlated to fibrosis) without invasive investigation.

Inner Ear Testing

Dr. JY Lee Choi

Dr. JY Choi graduated with a Doctor of Audiology from University of Florida in USA. She is also the American Board Certified Audiologist and has performed vestibular function testing at Toronto Western Hospital and electrophysiological measures at Toronto Eastern Hospital. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (FAAA) and holds the ASHA(American Speech-Language-Hearing Association), Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A), and is  registered with CASLPO (College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario).

Infertility

Internal Medicine

Dr. Valentin Voinov MD

Dr. Voinov completed his medical training, including specialty training in Internal Medicine at Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati, an affiliate of University of Cincinnati. Dr. Voinov has been a full time staff internist at Lakeridge Health Hospital since 2012 and looks forward to starting his community practice at the Polyclinic.

Dr. Voinov’s special interests are in diagnosis, screening, treatment and prevention of a broad range of diseases involving all organ systems, and especially in the management of patients with complex medical conditions. He welcomes all internal medicine referrals.

Dr. Voinov is also fluent in Russian.

Nephrology

Dr. Melvin Silverman MD FRCPC

Dr. Melvin Silverman holds regular nephrology consultation clinics at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Silverman is currently Senior Staff Nephrologist at the Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network, cross appointed at the Mount Sinai and Woman’s College Hospital, and Professor Emeritus of Medicine, University of Toronto. He has served as Director of the Institute of Medical Science, Founding Director of the MD PhD, and Royal College Clinical Investigator Programs at the University of Toronto, and as Vice President of Research at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. Dr. Silverman’s clinical interests include diabetic nephropathy, proteinuria and glomerulonephritis. Dr. Silverman accepts referrals for patients with low glomerular filtration rate (GFR), diabetic nephropathy, difficult hypertension, proteinuria, hematuria, electrolyte disturbances and recurrent kidney stones. Dr. Silverman speaks English, French and Yiddish.

Nerve Conduction

Dr. Lesley Corrin MD

Dr. Lesley Corrin started working at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility in June 2014 conducting nerve conductions studies and Electromyography (EMG). Dr. Corrin brings to the Polyclinic extensive experience in diagnosing and treating neuromuscular diseases. She trained in neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and completed specialty training in Neuromuscular Disease at Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes’s in Chicago.

Dr. Charles Godfrey MD FRCPC

Dr. Charles Godfrey performs nerve conduction studies at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility on a bi-weekly basis.  Dr. Godfrey has been a registered Physiatrist since 1942. He received his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Toronto in 1953. He completed his Fellowship at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Specialty Certificate (P. M. R.) 1959). Dr. Godfrey earned Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto in 1962. He completed Hospital Organization and Management Course at the Canadian Healthcare Association in 1968. He also earned a Master of Arts Degree in History at the University of Toronto in 1975, and Diploma in History of Medicine at the Apothecaries Society in 1999. Dr. Godfrey is a Professor Emeritus, Department of Medicine, University of Toronto and has been awarded the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario.

Neurology

Dr. Viachislav Prigozhikh MD, Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Dr. Viachislav Prigozhikh practices a general neurology full time at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Prigozhikh graduated from Irkutsk Medical School, Russia, in 1985 and completed his internship at Irkutsk Regional Hospital, Department of Neurology in 1986. He then completed his residency at the University of Kentucky, Albert B. Chandler Medical Center and VA Hospital, Department of Internal Medicine, and Neurology, Lexington, Kentucky; Drexel University College of Medicine,Allegheny General Hospital and Department of Neurology, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His other specialized training includes SUNY Upstate Medical University, Department of Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology (EMG/EEG, Neuromuscular diseases and Epilepsy) Fellow, Syracuse, New York. Dr. Prigozhikh is also a Member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). He is a professional member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), Ontario Medical Association (OMA), and the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA). Dr. Prigozhikh’s clinical interests include headaches, epilepsy, central nervous system degenerative diseases, neuromuscular diseases, neuropathies, movement disorders, demyelinating diseases, and cerebrovascular diseases.

Paediatrics

Dr. Eitan Weinberg MD FRCPC B ENG MGMT

Dr. Weinberg studied medicine at the University of Toronto and trained in pediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He currently works as a pediatric hospitalist at the Scarborough Grace Hospital and also practices primary care at Kindercare Pediatrics. In the hospital he deals with children in the emergency department, pediatric ward and neonatal intensive care unit. He also attends high risk deliveries. While on call, he runs an outpatient ambulatory clinic, where he provides consultation services to patients of family doctors in the local community.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Weinberg teaches medical students and residents from the University of Toronto. He also holds a Clinical Part-time Academic Appointment at the University of Toronto. He lectures annually to the Scarborough Family Medicine residents.

Dr. Weinberg has a special interest in supporting mothers who choose to breast feed. He works at the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic & Institute several times a month. Prior to practicing medicine, Dr. Weinberg studied Engineering and Business Management at McMaster University.

Dr. Alexander Golger MD FRCSC

Dr. Golger earned his MD from McMaster University before completed his 5 year residency at the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Golger serves as the staff plastic surgeon at Humber River Regional Hospital in Toronto and Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa, Ontario. Dr. Golger holds bi-weekly plastic surgery consultations at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility. Dr. Golger’s area of expertise includes craniofacial trauma, congenital or acquired deformity including ears, nasal, eyelid problems and other bony or soft tissue pathologies, surgical pathology of the skin and soft tissue – benign, premalignant or malignant including melanoma and sentinel node biopsy, breast surgery including congenital or cancer reconstruction, breast reduction, mastopexy, breast asymmetry, abdominal reconstruction secondary to post-surgical or post-partum deformities,hand surgery including stenosing tenosynovitis, ganglion cyst, compression neuropathy at the wrist or elbow (carpal / cubital tunnel syndromes), traumatic or arthritic deformities, dupuytren’s disease.

Dr. Mathew Plant, MD, FRCS(C)

Dr. Plant, is a gifted Toronto plastic surgeon who earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Schulich School of Medicine, University of Western Ontario. He then completed a five-year medical residency at the highly recognized Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Plant is also a recognized researcher, having published several journal articles in major plastic surgery and medical educational journals, winning multiple awards for his research.

Dr. Plant is now accepting new patients at our location for plastic surgery consultations and procedures including for:

  •  Surgical pathology of the skin and soft tissue – benign, premalignant or malignant including melanoma and cosmetic mole removal.

Alex earned his M.Ed. in Counselling Psychology from University of Toronto. He is Registered Psychotherapist in the province of Ontario. Anna Skomorovskaia: RD, Certified Diabetes Educator

Anna Skomorovskaia is a registered dietitian who earned her Bachelor of Applied Science at Ryerson University in 2000 and completed a Dietetic Internship in 2001 at Sunnybrook Hospital. Her dietetic experience includes work in diabetes, pediatric, renal, home-care and geriatrics fields. Anna’s nutrition philosophy is one that looks at the total person; not only regarding dietary intake and supplements but lifestyle and prevention as well. Anna is focused on health and wellness while creating a support system for a healthy lifestyle.

Respirology

Dr. Lee Fidler MD FRCPC

Dr. Fidler completed his MD with the University of Toronto in 2010, then went on to complete residency training in Internal Medicine and Adult Respirology at the University of Toronto, where he was the Chief Medical Resident at Toronto Western Hospital (University Health Network). He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Internal Medicine and Adult Respirology. Dr. Fidler recently completed a Respirology Fellowship at University of Toronto and is currently enrolled in a research fellowship at Toronto General Hospital with the interstitial lung disease program.

Dr. Victor Hoffstein PhD MD FRCPC FCCP

Dr. Victor Hoffstein holds respirology and sleep medicine clinics at the Polyclinic Specialty Medicine Facility twice a week. Dr. Hoffstein received his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Miami. He completed his post-graduate training in Toronto and in Boston at Harvard University. Currently he is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and is a staff respirologist at St. Michael’s Hospital. Dr. Hoffstein a member of the following organizations: Canadian Medical Association, Ontario Medical Association, Canadian Thoracic Society, Ontario Thoracic Society, American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, European Respiratory Society, and American Association of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Hoffstein sees patients with all breathing-related problems. He also supervises residents and fellows in his clinics at St. Michael’s Hospital.   He has an interest in Sleep Disorders – an area where he has done extensive research and acquired wide clinical experience. He was one of the founding physicians who started a Sleep Disorders Clinic and a Sleep Laboratory at St. Michael’s Hospital.   He published over 150 articles in his chosen field, as well as contributed chapters to textbooks in sleep medicine.  He has served on the editorial boards of professional journals and acted as a reviewer for various scholarly journals. Dr. Hoffstein speaks Russian, Polish, Italian, and French.

Dr. Kevin Lumb MD FRCPC

Dr. Kevin Lumb sees patients with respiratory and sleep problems at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility on a weekly basis. Dr. Lumb graduated with honours from the University of Toronto medical school in 2005.  He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Respirology at the University of Toronto in 2010.

Rheumatology

Dr. Waldemar Pruzanki MD FRCPC FACP FACR

Dr. Waldemar Pruzanski has been holding consultations at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility since 2004. Dr. Pruzanski is a specialist in Rheumatology and Immunology and Professor of Medicine at The University of Toronto. He is an active member of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario since 1968. Dr. Pruzanski is a consultant to St. Michael’s Hospital. He is fluent in English, Hebrew, Polish and Russian.

Dr. Arash Yazdani, MD, FRCP(C)

Dr. Yazdani completed his undergraduate medical training and Internal Medicine training at Queen’sUniversity. He subsequently completed his Rheumatology fellowship at the University of Toronto and has been practicing for three years full time at the Albany Clinic.

Dr. Yazdani is a general adult rheumatologist and is happy to see cases covering the whole breadth of rheumatology. These include:

  • Inflammatory arthritides, such as RA, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, IBD-related arthritis, etc.
  • Crystal-induced arthritides, such as gout and pseudo-gout

Urology

Dr. Allan Juriansz MD FRCSC

Dr. Allan Juriansz joined Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility, seeing urological consultations, in April, 2012. Dr. Juriansz is a well-known urological surgeon who practiced for many years in North York, Ontario. Dr. Juriansz spent 5 years practicing urology in Sydney, Australia before returning to practice in Toronto in April of 2012.

 

Dr. Hanmu Yan MD FRCSC

Dr. Yan is a medical graduate from the University of Toronto, and also completed his urology residency at the University of Toronto. Dr. Yan is completing a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Endourology at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Toronto, in June 2017.

Dr. Yan’s clinical interests include prostate cancer screening/counselling, BPH, and all areas of general urology. Dr. Yan looks forward to starting a urology clinical practice at the Polyclinic and welcomes all patients in the community.

Vascular Surgery

Dr. Allan Lossing BSc MD FRCSC

Dr. Allan Lossing provides vascular consultations at the Polyclinic Family and Specialty Medicine Facility on a bi-weekly basis. Dr. Lossing completed his Medical Doctoral degree at the University of Toronto in 1978. Dr. Lossing completed his fellowship at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in the field of General Surgery in 1984, and received his certificate in Vascular Surgery in 1987. He has also received professional training at St. Michael’s Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children, The Toronto Hospital, and Toronto East General Hospital. Dr. Lossing is an active member of Canadian Association of Medical Education, Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Society of Vascular Surgery, European Society for Vascular Surgery, International Society of Cardiovascular Surgeons, ISVS Committee Membership, Ontario Medical Association, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Taddle Creek Society. Dr. Lossing has hospital privileges at Southlake Regional Healthcare Center in Newmarket.
